FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Epoxy flooring questions answered
What is the difference between epoxy floor paint and a specified epoxy system?
Products and build-ups vary. An installed system includes a suitable substrate, preparation, primer and coating sequence selected for the use. A paint label or material price alone does not define that complete scope.
What are the main disadvantages of epoxy flooring?
It requires sound preparation and suitable application conditions. Some finishes can change appearance in sunlight, show scratches or need texture for their intended use. Repairs may remain visible, and the area must stay out of service while the system cures.
How long will an epoxy floor last?
There is no honest lifespan that applies to every floor. Preparation, system choice, traffic, cleaning and damage all matter. Discuss the intended use and maintenance requirements instead of relying on a universal years-of-service claim.
Is epoxy waterproof?
A continuous coating is not automatically a complete waterproofing system. Joints, cracks, drains and water pressure may require separate design and treatment. Do not use a flooring finish as proof that a building is waterproof.
Can epoxy go over tiles?
An existing tiled floor needs assessment for adhesion, movement, contamination and preparation feasibility. Removal may be necessary. The fact that epoxy can adhere to some prepared surfaces is not a promise that your tiles are a suitable base.
Is epoxy slippery when wet?
Surface texture, footwear, contamination and cleaning affect slip conditions. The finish should be selected for its use; no epoxy floor should be described as slip-proof.
How should I compare epoxy flooring prices?
Compare the complete written scope: preparation, removal, repairs, system, thickness where specified, finish, access staging and VAT treatment. Two rates per square metre can represent very different jobs.
What should I send with my enquiry?
Include the location, room use, approximate area, current surface and the change you want. Mention visible damage, water, oil or access restrictions. Exact measurements can follow when the scope is checked.
